Surfboard Ding Repair
Performing a surfboard repair at home may not be as hard as you think. Instead of going to your local repair shop, save some $$ and perform a surfboard repair yourself. You must tend to surfboard damage as soon as possible to avoid extra harm resulting in more complex surfboard repairs
Simple Surfboard Repair
For small cracks, Solarez tubes of quick dry resin can do the trick. These simple surfboard repair kits can repair your board in a simple four step process.
- First step of your surfboard repair is to completely dry and clean the area of any water, wax or dirt.
- You will need to move your board into the shade for the next step of your surfboard repair. Now fill your ding with Solarez and cover with a clear sheet of plastic
- Move your board into the sunlight for three minutes (or until Solarex hardens) and you are almost done with your surfboard repair.
- Peel off the plastic sheet and sand edges (sanding tool provided). Congratulations, you are done with you simple surfboard repair!
More Complex Surfboard Repair
For a more intense ding we would recommend a larger ding repair kit with the standard materials. These surfboard repair kits come in small and large sizes and can be found online or in your local surf shop for under $25 bucks. They are complete with all of the below contents and detailed instructions.

These surfboard repair kits come with instructions but to get an idea of what your surfboard repair will require you to do, here are simplified directions.
- The first step for a surfboard repair is to completely dry and clean of any dirt or wax. If wax, dirt or moisture are left in the ding your surfboard repair will be weak.
- Using a provided sanding block start sanding an area about ½” wider than the surfboard repair area.
- Mix resin and catalyst in supplied surfboard repair cups.
- Cut a piece of fiberglass that is slightly larger than the repair area.
- Coat the repair area with mixture and cover with cloth. Be patient with your surfboard repair and wait for mix to harden.
- Finally sand area with provided sandpaper. If the area is still not smooth enough, another surfboard repair step would be to purchase a piece of 600-grit sandpaper to make your board extra smooth.
- Your surfboard repair is done!
